(Wilfred) Now for two or three weeks we have been trying to get on to the shaking and haven’t managed it. But tonight I plan to move into that subject. I am not too sure that I have everything gathered up that might be said about it but I think we have enough here to at least identify what the shaking is all about. And I trust that it will be of some value to us.

Before I move into the subject however I feel constrained to read some passages from 1 Selective Messages. I’m going to start with page 180 but I’ll be moving in here in that chapter a little bit backwards and maybe a little bit forward and you can find the statements if you want to read them.

“There is a time of trouble coming to the people of God, but we are not to keep that constantly before the people, and rein them up to have a time of trouble beforehand. There is to be a shaking among God's people, but this is not the present truth to carry to the churches...”

I felt that some of you may come across this statement and some others that I am going to read and it might disturb you and you might be tempted to say, What business have we to be talking about the shaking? This statement was written by Sister White from St. Helena, California May 19th 1890 to one of our ministers who apparently had been doing a few things that were not approved of and she wrote him a testimony and I would like to read some extracts from that testimony so that we will understand each other and somehow I hope that we will feel justified in attacking this subject.

We are a long ways removed from 1890, right? At that time the time of trouble and the shaking were not to be agitated, that’s what she is saying, by this particular minister in any case. Does that mean that there will never come a time when the time of trouble and the shaking should be agitated? Well, obviously not. But if we take an isolated statement such as this there is to be shaking among God’s people but this is not the present truth to carry to the churches. If we take an isolated statement like that without checking into the background and situation under which it was written we can get a completely false idea of the thing. Isn't that right?

Now let’s just take a brief view of some of the things this man was doing so that we’ll be able to identify in our own thinking whether we are on the right track or the wrong track. She says, “I expected ere this to see you and talk with you, or write to you; but I have not been able to do either, neither am I now able; but I feel a deep interest in you and am desirous that you shall not be separated from the work.” In other words there was a risk that he was going to be separated from the ministry and the Church. “I have not strength to do justice in conversation with you; your mind is so quick and your tongue so fluent, that I fear I should become very much wearied, and that which I might say would not remain distinct in your mind.” {1SM 176.1}

“I see your danger; you can readily put your thoughts into words. You put things in a strong light; and your language is not guarded. Your views on some points are so expressed that you make your brethren afraid of you. This need not be. You should not try to get as far from your brethren as you can, making it appear that you do not see alike.”

“I have been shown that your influence for good is greatly lessened because you feel it your duty to express your ideas on certain points which you do not fully comprehend yourself, and which, with all your efforts, you cannot make others comprehend. I have been shown that it was not necessary for you to feel that you must dwell upon these points. Some of your ideas are correct, others incorrect and erroneous.”

“If you would dwell on subjects as Christ's willingness to forgive sins, to receive the sinner, to save that which is lost, subjects that inspire hope and courage, you would be a blessing. But while you strive to be original and take such extreme views, and use such strong language in presenting them, there is danger of doing much harm. Some may grasp your thought and seem to be benefited, but when tempted and overcome, they lose courage to fight the good fight of faith.”

“If you will dwell less on these ideas, which seem to you so important, and will restrain your extravagant expressions, you yourself will have more faith. I saw that your mind was at times unbalanced from trying very hard to study into and explain the mystery of godliness, which is just as great a mystery after your study and explanations as it was before.”

“Lead the people to look to Jesus as their only hope and helper; leave the Lord room to work upon the mind, to speak to the soul, and to impress the understanding. It is not essential for you to know and tell others all the whys and wherefores as to what constitutes the new heart, or as to the position they can and must reach so as never to sin. You have no such work to do.”

“All are not constituted alike. Conversions are not all alike. Jesus impresses the heart, and the sinner is born again to new life. Often souls have been drawn to Christ when there was no violent conviction, no soul rending, no remorseful terrors. They looked upon an uplifted Saviour, they lived. They saw the soul's need, they saw the Saviour's sufficiency, and His claims, they heard His voice saying, "Follow Me," and they rose up and followed Him. This conversion was genuine, and the religious life was just as decided as was that of others who suffered all the agony of a violent process.”

“Our ministers must cease to dwell upon their peculiar ideas with the feeling, "You must see this point as I do, or you cannot be saved." Away with such egotism. The great work to be done in every case is to win souls to Christ. Men must see Jesus on the cross, they must look and live. It is not your ideas they must feed upon, but it is the flesh and blood of the Son of God. He says, "My flesh is meat indeed" (John 6:55). "The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life" (John 6:63).”

I won’t read all of this but there are two or three things yet that I would like to put in.

She goes on to talk about the experience of salvation that this man aught to be talking about. She says through the goodness and mercy of Christ the sinner is to be restored to the divine favor. Have we talked about that?

“God in Christ is daily beseeching men to be reconciled to God. With outstretched arms He is ready to receive and welcome not only the sinner but the prodigal. His dying love, manifested on Calvary, is the sinner's assurance of acceptance, peace, and love. Teach these things in the simplest form, that the sin-darkened soul may see the light shining from the cross of Calvary.”

“Satan is working in many ways, that the very men who ought to preach the message may be occupied with fine-drawn theories which he will cause to appear of such magnitude and importance as to fill the whole mind; and while they think they are making wonderful strides in experience, they are idolizing a few ideas, and their influence is injured, and tells but little on the Lord's side.”

“Let every minister make earnest efforts to ascertain what is the mind of Christ. Unless your mind becomes better balanced in regard to some things, your course will separate you from the work, and you will not know at what you stumble. You will advance ideas which you might better never have originated.“

“There are those who pick out from the Word of God, and also from the Testimonies, detached paragraphs or sentences that may be interpreted to suit their ideas, and they dwell upon these, and build themselves up in their own positions, when God is not leading them. Here is your danger.

“You will take passages in the Testimonies that speak of the close of probation, of the shaking among God's people, and you will talk of a coming out from this people of a purer, holier people that will arise. Now all this pleases the enemy. We should not needlessly take a course that will make differences or create dissension.” Did you notice the word “needlessly”? We should not needlessly take a course that will make differences or create dissension.” There are times when it is necessary to take a course that causes dissension. This is what they criticized Christ for. John the Baptist certainly met up with it. “We should not give the impression that if our particular ideas are not followed, it is because the ministers are lacking in comprehension and in faith, and are walking in darkness.”

“Your mind has been on an unnatural strain for a long time. You have much truth, precious truth, but mingled with suppositions. Your extreme ideas and strong language often destroy the effect of your best efforts. Should many accept the views you advance, and talk and act upon them, we would see one of the greatest fanatical excitements that has ever been witnessed among Seventh-day Adventists. This is what Satan wants.” {1SM 179.5}

In other words, the line between truth and error is sometimes barely discernable.

And just two or three things further and I’ll be through with this passage.

“Satan's object is accomplished just as surely when men run ahead of Christ and do the work He has never entrusted to their hand, as when they remain in the Laodicean state, lukewarm, feeling rich and increased with goods, and in need of nothing.” So there are two extremes right? You can be too lethargic, too Laodicean lukewarm, and at the same time you must not go ahead of the leading angel beyond what Christ leads. Either state is objectionable. “The two classes are equally stumbling blocks.”  She says.

“Some zealous ones who are aiming and straining every energy for originality have made a grave mistake in trying to get something startling, wonderful, entrancing before the people, something that they think others do not comprehend; but they do not themselves know what they are talking about. They speculate upon God's Word, advancing ideas that are not a whit of help to themselves or to the churches. For the time being they may excite the imagination, but there is a reaction, and these very ideas become a hindrance. Faith is confounded with fancy, and their views may bias the mind in a wrong direction.”

“Let the plain, simple statements of the Word of God be food for the mind; this speculating upon ideas that are not clearly presented there is dangerous business.

“You are naturally combative. You do not care much whether you harmonize with your brethren or not. You would like to enter into controversy, you would like to fight for your particular ideas; but you should lay this aside, for this is not developing the Christian graces. Work with all your power to answer the prayer of Christ, that His disciples may be one, as He is one with the Father.”

“ not be dictatorial, do not be severe, do not be antagonistic. Preach the love of Christ, and this will melt and subdue hearts. Seek to be of one mind and of one judgment, coming close in harmony with your brethren, and to speak the same things.”

The reason I'm reading that passage is that we are entering a time when the devil is going to do everything he can to unsettle the people of God. No question about it. We are going into the shaking and everything thing that can be shaken, she says, will be shaken.

It's very easy to see how that some minds will discern in things that we are doing some parallels to that statement. But if you are following it very closely I think you would catch the identification. She is condemning there, speculation, bringing out things that are not present truth and making something big of them. Bringing things out that are fanciful to attract the attention of people and to stir up a fight and let’s get cracking at it. That type a thing. That’s what she’s talking about. And this man was doing it.

Now I hope that we haven’t been doing that. One of the reasons that I have generally brought a fairly large number of books with me and taken a lot of time to read is to counteract that particular testimony. We don’t want to have anyone feel that we are moving into speculation and trying to bring out fanciful ideas to make an impression. I’m not here and haven’t been in these meetings because I want to be. I am thankful that the Lord has given me an adjusting personality that I can adapt myself to the things He asks me to do. But the last thing I want to do is to stir up controversy and animosity and friction among God’s people. The last thing I want to do is to bring in fanciful ideas and theories that are not genuine and sound. The last thing I want to do is to bring in thoughts that are not substantiated in the Word of God and the Spirit of Prophecy. I hope those of you who have been in our studies and some of you have been I think present for at least fifty or more that we have had. I hope that you have discerned this and that some of these statements which are written to safeguard the work of God will not throw you in that respect, that you will be clear minded.

I have tried to point out to you that you must not have confidence in a person but confidence in a message and I have directed you to the books recommending highly that you check into the books to see whether these things are so. And if you find anything in there that does not harmonize with what we have said I would be the first one to express my gratitude if you brought them to me and some of you have been doing that and it enables us to consider further aspects and to get clearer concepts of what God is trying to tell us.

I want to tell you frankly that I am here because many many years back when I surrendered my life to the Lord and asked Him if He would please open my understanding so I could understand His good book in a way that would make it tangible to me so I wouldn’t have to be always wishy-washy about it and wondering whether it might be this way or that way or whether it was true at all or not, and in response to that prayer the Lord did answer as He says in this book He will. If any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not. And I won’t go into the details of it I simply want to express the thought that I personally have checked and rechecked for nearly thirty-five years as to whether the things that I have been sharing with you were genuinely from God or they were not. And the Spirit of Prophecy tells us that if we wait upon the Lord He will tell us what work we are best suited to perform, what area of work we aught to take up. He will direct us in that area. And when I asked him why He was giving me many things out of these books that I really never expected to see nor understand, I merely asked for sufficient to be able to say honestly that I was an Adventist and believed our doctrines. But He expanded my understanding beyond that which seemed to be understood by many of my fellow believers and in asking him for this information He responded to me and I was aware that I had a duty to perform to him and in return for what He had done for me. That was the bargain that I made with him in the first place incidentally and I don’t recommend that we make bargains with God but there are occasions when men in the Scriptures have done it and I did it because I was in a dilemma and my future life plans would depend on what the outcome of that dilemma would be. I was just a young fellow and God made it very plain to me that He wanted me to share with you the things that He had brought to me. After all what does God do this for anyway? He doesn’t give light to be put under a bushel the Bible says, or to be hid; it’s to be shared. And furthermore God does nothing but what He reveals it to us before it happens so that we are prepared and aware, that’s what He does.

And I am simply following the instructions which I have received from my master. I did not ask to do this. I was asked to do it by people and God made it very plain to me that I was not to turn them down when they have asked and I have faithfully done that. And when that work is finished as far as I’m concerned and I’ve finished my duty then the Lord will accept me and somebody else will take on. Now God does that with anybody who is willing to submit to him, anyone who is willing to surrender whole heartedly and completely to the direction of the master will find his place in life and God will make it plain to him what he is to do. No question about it.

Now, let me tell you that I am thoroughly convinced that we are facing an emergency that the time of the shaking while it has been going on ever since the day of Sister White in her early experience as she testifies, in spite of the statement I just read you the shaking is an expanding experience. I am thoroughly convinced and I am sharing that conviction with you and I have evidences for it in the Word that we are entering the climatic shaking among God’s people. And the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy are quite clear as to how it will be accomplished, how it’s going to happen and that's what I want to share with you. And if you don’t see it there that’s for you to decide. I mean don’t accept it just because I present it, check into the books yourself and if you can see it, find, and if you can’t see it, well, you don’t see it.

But the shaking is an extremely vital experience which is coming upon God’s people and I’ll tell you briefly that it will start within the Church and will be centered around expanding understandings of truth particularly coming out of the Laodicean message. That is about as precisely and accurately as I can state it. It will come upon God’s people as a test and the test is primarily one of brotherly fellowship, brotherly love. This is the test of fellowship in the church of God, Jesus said, hereby shall all men know that you are my disciples if you have love one to another. I believe that’s the way Jesus said it. And there is another place over in the New Testament where it states it slightly differently, but that’s the test.

Now I have already brought to you statements concerning new truth and I am not going to review those. Some of you if you weren’t here, just missed them. I can’t take time tonight to go through them all again, it’s about an hour’s worth all together. But she says very plainly that the Lord will bring new truth to his people to try them to see what manner of spirit they are of, and I quoted that word for word.

The shaking will continue beyond denominational boundaries as we move on past the close of probation, the trials and tests of God’s people will become severe but the sealing takes place while the shaking is going on. Now, it’s very difficult to segregate these two. In some places Sister White indicates that the sealing takes place before the shaking in others she indicates that the sealing takes place after the shaking and in others it seems to be at the same time. So I say again that the shaking is progressive and the sealing is progressive. God’s people have been sealed right from the time the disciples were sealed. But there are degrees of sealing and the final sealing, which is spoken of in her books here as “The Sealing” is the sealing that settles God’s people into the truth so that they cannot be moved. It comes through the agency of the Holy Spirit guiding them into all truth and convincing them, it settles them into that truth and they cannot be shaken loose from their conviction of the truth, that is the genuine sealing.

Now there is an outward sign that the seal has taken place. Yes, she does say in some places that the Sabbath is the seal but in most places she speaks of the Sabbath Commandment as containing the seal and there is a distinction. I don’t think I’ll take time at this point to go into the sealing and the sign of the sealing unless someone mentions it. If we finish with the shaking before our time is up I can move into it perhaps tonight, if not I will plan to deal more specificly with the sealing at the next meeting, and then tie the two together more or less because they are interlocked, you can’t separate the sealing and the shaking, it’s just impossible. I’ll be referring to it as we go along.

Now, do you have any questions at that point? Is there something you wanted to ask about or puzzles you or something before we move on into the shaking proper?

No questions?

(Larry) It’s out of the Laodicean message?

(John) The Laodicean message is Revelation 3, To the Church of Laodicea the third chapter of Revelation.

(Wilfred) Yes, The message to the true witness to the last church, the Laodicean church. And I have already dealt with that. Whether some of you spotted it or not I don’t know. But I have dealt with it; but I’ll come back into it as we proceed. In fact I think I’ll take another meeting sometime to go through the Laodicean message, we’ll just go through the whole message and pick out the points that are significant.

I’m going to read now some more and I’ve already given you the reason why I read so much. I would like everybody to know that it’s coming out of the books not just out of my head.

I’m going to read from Early Writings page 266. This is sort of a carpet under the principle of the shaking; it’s sort of standing or resting on this carpet. It is entitled “Covetousness”.

“I saw that Satan bade his angels lay their snares especially for those who were looking for Christ's second appearing and keeping all the commandments of God.” Do you qualify? Are you looking for the second appearing and are you keeping all of God’s commandments? If you are Satan and his angels are laying snares especially for you." Got that? “Satan told his angels that the churches were asleep. He would increase his power and lying wonders, and he could hold them.” He wasn’t worried about them. "But," he said, "The sect of Sabbath-keepers we hate; they are continually working against us, and taking from us our subjects, to keep the hated Law of God.” Now I have talked about that Law of God and why it was necessary and the principles of God’s government and how it functions and why it is necessary that God operates it that way. I’ve talked about that before and that’s the very thing that the devil criticized in the first place and the very thing that God is now wanting to reestablish to restore his Kingdom as it originally was. And Satan is going to do everything he can to prevent it because he knows that those people who are keeping all the commandments and who are looking for the second coming of Christ, he knows that these people are the ones through whom God is going to restore that Kingdom, so he is going to try to upset it. “Go, make the possessors of lands and money drunk with cares. If you can make them place their affections upon these things, we shall have them yet. They may profess what they please, only make them care more for money than for the success of Christ's kingdom or the spread of the truths we hate. Present the world before them in the most attractive light, that they may love and idolize it. We must keep in our ranks all the means of which we can gain control. The more means the followers of Christ devote to His service, the more will they injure our kingdom” That is, Satan’s kingdom, “By getting our subjects. As they appoint meetings in different places, we are in danger.” Did you get that? “As they appoint meetings in different places” Who appoints meetings? God’s people, Sabbath-keepers. When they do this, who is in danger?

(A man in the audience) Satan.

Wilfred) Satan. So he says, “Be very vigilant then. Cause disturbance and confusion if possible. Destroy love for one another.” Now, what’s the test for fellowship?

(Another man in the audience) Love.

(Wilfred) Love. What does the devil want to do? Destroy it. And when the truth comes to the people of God and some rise up against it and won’t bare it. She says, this is what causes the shaking. Do you see that? The shaking is caused by variance coming in among God’s people over truth. And who is behind the variation?

(A man in the audience) Satan.

(Wilfred) Satan. He wants to destroy their love for one another. “Discourage and dishearten their ministers; for we hate them. Present every plausible excuse to those who have means, lest they hand it out. Control the money matters if you can, and drive their ministers to want and distress. This will weaken their courage and zeal. Battle every inch of ground. Make covetousness and love of earthly treasures the ruling traits of their character.” Who’s talking here? Satan, and who is he talking to? His angels. “As long as these traits rule, salvation and grace stand back. Crowd every attraction around them, and they will be surely ours. And not only are we sure of them, but their hateful influence will not be exercised to lead others to heaven. When any shall attempt to give, put within them a grudging disposition, that it may be sparingly.” Now that’s the end of Satan’s quotation.

Here’s Sister White talking again, ”I saw that Satan carries out his plans very well. As the servants of God appoint meetings, Satan with his angels is on the ground to hinder the work. He is constantly putting suggestions into the minds of God's people.” Now I have told you before that many of your thoughts, if not most of them are not your own thoughts. They are planted there by spirit agencies. There are both good angels and bad angels this statement verifies the fact that Satan is constantly putting suggestions into the minds of God’s people. Many of the thoughts that come to you are not yours and they're not God’s, they are Satan’s. Any thought that comes to you that cause you to be at variance with your brethren unnecessarily is from Satan. But there are times when in speaking the truth you will come into variance with your brethren, why?

(A man in the audience) Because they don’t see it the way you do.

(Wilfred) Because they don’t see it. Now she says, don’t go ahead of the angel who is leading the people, fall back. And I want to tell you frankly; I have understood some truths that I have been sharing with you for more than thirty years and I have not been able to share them except with my very closest trustworthy friends. Why? Because I have shied away from causing dissension among God’s people. I believe that this church is God’s church. I believe that fellowship with the brethren is more important than anything else. But there comes a time when a message of truth has to be given, there is no choice, and if men keep quiet, do you know what she says will happen? The very stones will cry out. Can you not see as you look around the world today that we are facing an emergency? Can’t you see that? Do you not recognize that we are long behind schedule? We should have been in the Kingdom long ago, she says that. Do you not realize that it is high time that we got up off our soft chairs and got to work? Do you understand?

“He is constantly putting suggestions into the minds of God's people. He leads some in one way and some in another, always taking advantage of evil traits in the brethren and sisters, exciting and stirring up their natural besetments.” So if you have some natural bad besetments you can be sure the devil is going to capitalize on them. And don’t I know it. “If they are disposed to be selfish and covetous, Satan takes his stand by their side, and with all his power seeks to lead them to indulge their besetting sins.” So you go and spend your money foolishly and buy all sorts of things that gratify your ego and you forget all about the Lord’s cause. Right? And the calls come for sacrifice and you dole out a little bit because you want to get that car with all that chrome on it next time, or that transistor radio, or whatever it is. “The grace of God and the light of truth may melt away their covetous, selfish feelings for a little, but if they do not obtain entire victory, Satan comes in when they are not under a saving influence and withers every noble, generous principle, and they think that too much is required of them.” After all you see, we have to look after ourselves, we should be able to spend a little on ourselves, haven’t you thought that way? If you haven’t you are not very normal. “They become weary of well-doing and forget the great sacrifice which Jesus made to redeem them from the power of Satan and from hopeless misery.”

Well, I’m going to skip some of this. It goes on to talk about Judas. It says; “Judas prized his Lord just enough to sell Him for a few pieces of silver. And I saw that there were some like Judas among those who profess to be waiting for their Lord.” Are you like Judas? She said she saw some among them who are. So some of us must be. She says, “Satan controls them, but they know it not.” I don’t suppose any of us would want to admit that Satan is controlling us. And if he were we wouldn’t know it. “God cannot approve of the least degree of covetousness or selfishness, and He abhors the prayers and exhortations of those who indulge these evil traits. As Satan sees that his time is short, he leads men on to be more and more selfish and covetous, and then exults as he sees them wrapped up in themselves, close, penurious, and selfish.”
Do you recognize that this is Satan himself way back there in the beginning? God gave him everything and it wasn’t good enough, he wanted more. The principle of selfishness is at the root of all sin. That’s why it is so important that we understand this thing. That’s why God places us in positions where we can sacrifice, only through sacrifice can selfishness be knocked out, it’s the only way. God has got all the riches in the world He doesn’t need our money, He can handle the situation, He’s the owner of all the cattle on a thousand hills he says. Why does He ask us to constantly sacrifice and sacrifice to support this and support that and support the other thing? Why do we have to support the ministers, why do we have to build schools and build hospitals and send money over to feed the starving folk, why? Can’t the Lord take care of that? He could send down food from heaven, He did it there for the Israelites, thousands of meals they had. He could do that why doesn’t He do it? I’ll tell you why. He wants you to regain the image of his character which is selflessness. And the only why to regain it is to have an opportunity to develop it. Don’t you see? Now, why am I reading you this? I’ll tell you frankly why I am reading it. The shaking is going to hit you awfully hard if you haven’t gotten rid of selfishness. Only if you are rid of selfishness and you are willing to except persecution, suffering, trouble, privation, will your faith still hold in God under those circumstances? If you still have selfishness in your heart, do you know what’s going to happen? You are going to turn against God. Just like the devil did. That is the natural instinctive response. “If the eyes of such could be opened, they would see Satan in hellish triumph, exulting over them and laughing at the folly of those who accept his suggestions and enter his snares.” He is having a high old time.

“Satan and his angels mark all the mean and covetous acts of these persons and present them to Jesus and His holy angels, saying reproachfully, "These are Christ's followers! They are preparing to be translated!" Satan compares their course with passages of Scripture in which it is plainly rebuked and then he taunts the heavenly angels, saying, "These are following Christ and His Word! They are the fruits of Christ's sacrifice and redemption!" Is that what Christ died to accomplish? Selfishness in you and in me? And the devil’s got this all taped up.

“Angels turn in disgust from the scene. God requires a constant doing on the part of his people; and when they become weary of well doing, He becomes weary of them. I saw that He is greatly displeased with the least manifestation of selfishness on the part of his professed people,” With the least manifestation of selfishness, He is greatly displeased. How well are you pleasing the Lord? “For whom Jesus spared not His own precious life. Every selfish, covetous person will fall out by the way.” I am going to read that again. “Every selfish, covetous person will fall out by the way.” Do you see the shaking? Some are going to stand and some are going to fall out. The wheat is going to be separated from the chaff. Every selfish, covetous, person will be chaff. “Like Judas, who sold his Lord, they will sell good principles and a noble, generous, disposition for a little of earth's gain. All such will be sifted out from God's people.” Is that plain? “Those who want heaven must with all the energy which they possess, be encouraging the principles of heaven.” And what is the fundamental principle of the Law of heaven?

(A man in the audience) Selflessness.

(Wilfred) Selflessness. Right. “Every opportunity should be improved in doing good to one another and thus cherishing the principles of heaven. Jesus was presented to me as the perfect pattern and his life was without selfish interest, but was ever marked with disinterested benevolence.” Well, that’s the background.

Now I’m going to read what she says about the shaking. And this was in her very early experience. This is not a complete description of the shaking but it gives the keys and I think it is adequate for us to work from.

(Another man in the audience) Brother Johnson, Does this last thing that we covered here, this falling out by the way, does that fit the passage; lest there comes a falling away first?

(Wilfred) I don’t think that’s the same thing. I think that falling away first was the apostasy and going down into the dark ages and then the reformation and coming back up.

Here is the shaking page 269 it starts. I hope you don’t get weary of my reading, I mean I could tell you all this but I don’t want anyone going away thinking that Johnson is giving fanciful theories and he aught to keep quite and leave people alone.

“I saw some, with strong faith and agonizing cries, pleading with God." Got the picture, what kind of faith have they got?

(A man in the audience) Strong.

(Wilfred) Strong. How do you get strong faith?

(Same man) By exercising it.

(Wilfred) By exercising it. What kind of exercise? You face up to experiences or you are lead into experiences wherein your faith in God is tested. You wonder, is God really what He says He is or is the devil? And you come through the experience and you see that God was faithful and true and you gain a little bit more confidence in him. And then He brings you through a heavier experience and you gain a little more confidence and gradually you build it up like exercising a muscle. And she says “agonizing cries”, what kind of cries? Agonizing, what does agonizing mean?

(Same man) Painful.

(Wilfred) Painful. It hurts. Have you had that experience? Any of you people had that experience? Oh yes, at your age you must have had a little. The older you get the more you have. You’ll soon learn. And what are they doing? Pleading with God. “Their countenances were pale and marked with deep anxiety, expressive of their internal struggle.” What’s going on? An internal struggle. And how are they trying to solve it? Pleading with God. “Firmness and great earnestness was expressed in their countenances; large drops of perspiration fell from their foreheads. Now and then their faces would light up with the marks of God's approbation,” That means his approval. He lets them know that He approves of them. “And again the same solemn, earnest, anxious look would settle upon them”. Now, I might explain that this is leading up to the shaking see. So what condition are God’s people going to be in as they approach into the shaking? This is what I’m trying to get at.

(John) Pleading with the Lord.

(Wilfred) And why are they pleading with the Lord? Because they are having an internal...

(John) Struggle.

(Wilfred) They are having an internal struggle. And what’s the internal struggle all about?

(John) Selfishness and selflessness.

(Wilfred) Yes, and? Confidence in God.

“Evil angels crowded around, pressing darkness upon them to shut out Jesus from their view, that their eyes might be drawn to the darkness that surrounded them,” Ok, you get these depressions and down moods and blue moods, what is causing them?

(Same man) Evil angels.

(Wilfred) Yes, evil angels are crowding around and pressing this darkness upon them. “And thus they be led to distrust God and murmur against Him.” Have you reached that point sometimes? What’s the matter with the Lord can’t He do better than this? See, you start murmuring. “Their only safety was in keeping their eyes directed upward.” What is their only safety? “Keeping their eyes directed upward. Angels of God had charge over His people,” Who’s looking after God’s people?

(Same man) The angles of God.

(Wilfred) Yes, Do they prevent the evil angels from pressing darkness upon them?

(A man in the audience) No.

(Wilfred) No, but they still have charge. “And as the poisonous atmosphere of evil angels was pressed around these anxious ones, the heavenly angels were continually wafting their wings over them to scatter the thick darkness.” Of course this is symbolic.

As the praying ones continued their earnest cries, at times a ray of light from Jesus came to them,” Let me ask you, what is a ray of light?

(John) Understanding of truth.

(Wilfred) Understanding of truth. That’s right. So they gain a little more understanding of truth. This was brought to them why? “To encourage their hearts and light up their countenances. Some I saw, did not participate in this work of agonizing and pleading.” If you are not participating in this work of agonizing and pleading, listen to what happens. “They seemed indifferent and careless. They were not resisting the darkness around them, and it shut them in like a thick cloud. The angels of God left these and went to the aid of the earnest, praying ones. I saw angels of God hasten to the assistance of all who were struggling with all their power to resist the evil angels” How hard were they struggling?

(John) With all their power.

(Wilfred) With all their power. Who came to their assistance?

(John) Good angels.

(Wilfred) Were they slow to come? It said they “hastened”. “...All their power to resist the evil angels and trying to help themselves by calling upon God with perseverance.” How can you help yourself then? By calling upon God with perseverance, not just intermittingly. When you do that then these angels come to your aid. “But His angels left those who made no effort to help themselves, and I lost sight of them.”

“I asked the meaning of the shaking I had seen” All right get this now. I asked.....

(There is a short break in the tape here for some unknown reason)
(Wilfred) Now we have just been describing the shaking whether you realized it or not. Did you get the picture? What’s causing problems?

(A man in the audience) Evil angels.

(Wilfred) Evil angels. What are they doing?

(Same man) Pressing in with darkness.

(Wilfred) Pressing in with darkness, whatever that means. What does it do to God’s people?

(John) Causes an internal struggle.

(Wilfred) Causes an internal struggle. And what is the struggle with? Self, and?

(John) It’s a test of faith.

(Wilfred) A test of faith. Begins to make them think that God isn’t fair and true. There’s something wrong with him. Why doesn’t He help me? How did they try to solve it?

(John) They turned to the Lord.

(Wilfred) They turned to the Lord and their eyes fixed steadily upward and they are pleading and agonizing and persevering with God. And they are doing this to help themselves and then what does God’s angels do?

(Larry) Comes to their assistance.

(Wilfred) Comes to their assistance.

(John) And gives a ray of light occasionally.

(Wilfred) Gives a ray of light and wafts away the darkness. Ok?

(A woman in the audience) Is this the time we are sharing Christ....

(Wilfred) Well, it’s certainly is sharing Christ’s experience, I wouldn’t necessarily say that it would completely parallel his Gethsemane experience, although it can. It’s a similar type of thing. But of course He was facing a tremendous decision which is not the same kind of decision you are facing exactly.

(Same woman) Are you saying then that... Unintelligible

(Wilfred) Yes, in that sense it parallels. Any other thoughts?

(Same woman) The evangelicals teach the opposite... They’ll stay once they became a Christian and they are happy all the time.

(Wilfred) Yes.

All right, here is the explanation. She says, “I asked the meaning of the shaking I had seen and I was shown that it would be caused by the straight testimony called forth by the counsel of the True Witness to the Laodiceans.” In other words it’s in the Laodicean message, the testimony that is brought forth from the Laodicean message that will cause this shaking.

This internal struggle, this darkness, this stuff about the devil pressing in on them is going to be centered around truth coming out of the Laodicean message. Let me make that a little clearer,

“I asked the meaning of the shaking I had seen and was shown that it would be caused by the straight testimony called forth by the counsel of the True Witness to the Laodiceans.” Who is the true witness to the Laodiceans?

(John) Christ.

(Wilfred) What is the testimony of the true witness? The testimony of Christ. What is the testimony of Jesus?

(John) The Spirit of Prophecy.

(Wilfred) The Spirit of Prophecy. Now, it is through the Spirit of Prophecy that the testimony comes out, given in the message to the Laodiceans. It’s the Spirit of Prophecy that unfolds the testimony. Do you get the idea? Let me put it plainly. It’s your confidence in the Spirit of Prophecy that will cause the shaking. It will bring about this situation we have just described, why? Because of the controversy over truth, that’s why. Don’t you get it? God brings new truth to his people to test them, to try them, to shake them. Don’t you get it? I read those statements to you before. I won’t go back and read them again.

Now listen to what she says, she explains it very clearly, “This will have its effect upon the heart of the receiver, and will lead him to exalt the standard and pour forth the straight truth.” So what will it do with the receiver who accepts it?

(John) He will become a witness.

(Wilfred) He will become a witness. It will get into his heart which is his feelings and he will pour forth the straight truth. Now listen, “Some will not bear this straight testimony. They will rise up against it, and this is what will cause a shaking among God's people.” Now did I tell you the truth? Is it in the books? It is as plain as it can be. This statement is also published in the 1st volume of the Testimonies for the Churches. I forget the page number. But I am reading it out of Early Writings. It was originally published in Spiritual Gifts and you can still get it in the original edition. They republished it and you can find it in there.

Do you realize now why I read that statement from here before I started? Because the unfolding of the truth of the Laodicean message to God’s people as it is coming now was not present truth then but it is present truth now. It is going to cause dissension among God’s people. It is going to cause a shaking among God’s people. Now you can come up and read the statement in here and say; look you’re on the wrong track, follow the council and keep quiet and quit disturbing the Church. Do you get the point? There comes a time when that statement doesn’t apply. It applies under that situation because, why? It was not time for the shaking to be agitated, I read that didn’t I? But Brothers and Sisters the day is coming when it is time for the shaking to be agitated and that day is now, and I am doing it and others are doing it. Voices are starting up all over the place. I told you why I’m doing it, not because I want to but because I promised the Lord I would do it many years ago before I ever realized what it was all about. But, I’m not going to go back on my promise because the Lord didn’t go back on his. He fulfilled my request and I promised Him I would do everything He asked me to do if He would fulfill my request. And He has asked me to do this, so I’m doing it. And the consequences I’ll leave with Him.

“I saw that the testimony of the True Witness has not been half heeded.” Get that? The testimony of the True Witness to his people today has not been half heeded, they are lukewarm Laodiceans. “The solemn testimony upon which the destiny of the church hangs has been lightly esteemed, if not entirely disregarded. This testimony must work deep repentance; all who truly receive it will obey it and be purified. What kind of people does the Lord have to have before He can come and take them? Purified people. If they heed and obey the testimony of the true witness what will happen? They will be purified. Do you see how that the coming of Jesus is hanging in your hands? The Bible says you can hasten or delay the coming of Jesus. Do you see how or did you miss it?

I guess I’ve got to go over it again.

(John) As well as what you’ve just been saying the statement also brings out that this purification is preceded by deep repentance, sorrow for the sins that we’ve been committing cast aspersions upon Christ.

(Wilfred) Right. We have to do something before we can become purified, did you get that? Christ can’t come until his people are purified. Did you get that? Then in whose hands does it rest? You can hasten or delay the coming of Jesus. She says that too. I’m fully aware that God is all-powerful and I honestly believe He has a time clock. He is not going to force us to come to time so that He can finish this out according to his clock. He’s not going to force us. He will never do that. But I’ll tell you what He is going to do. He is going to bring a shaking. He’s going to bring his sword upon his people and I have gone over that study with you, haven’t I? He’s going to bring a sword upon his people and that’s in the Laodicean message. He’s going to spew them out of his mouth. Out of his mouth comes a sharp two-edged sword, my Bible says. He’s going to spew them out of that mouth, that sword is going to come out of his mouth and come upon his people. Ezekiel tells us that. And it is coming upon them as a trial. The Sword is the Word of God, the Bible tells me that. That sword is going to be sharpened and furbished, Ezekiel says. That means it can cut deeper, it can penetrate. When it’s furbished it is shinning and bright, it will reflect more light. It’s all centered around the Word of God Brothers and Sisters. The Word of God is going to unfold, the Laodicean message is going to unfold and it’s going to come upon his people like a sword and it’s going to cut. You are going to see yourself as you really are. You are either going to go up or down. You’ll either repent or turn against God. You won’t be in the middle. There won’t be any hazy middle anymore, it will go one way or the other and you make the decision. And the thing that God is going to do to force you to make the decision, I say He won’t force you, but He will force you to make a decision, but He won’t force you as to which decision you make. He’s going to force the issue not your decision. Do you understand? And how is He going to do it? He is going to bring new truth to his people. And I’ve gone over all that. I’ve proved all that. If you haven’t had it and you want to get it it’s on tapes and I think I even have printed material maybe you can use.

Said the angel, "List ye!" Soon I heard a voice like many musical instruments all sounding in perfect strains, sweet and harmonious. It surpassed any music I had ever heard, seeming to be full of mercy, compassion, and elevating holy joy. It thrilled through my whole being. Said the angel, "Look ye!" My attention was then turned to the company I had seen, who were mightily shaken.” Now who was she looking at?

(Another man) The company that was shaken.

(Wilfred) The company that was shaken and what did she see? “I was shown those whom I had before seen weeping and praying in agony of spirit. The company of guardian angels around them had been doubled, and they were clothed with an armor from their head to their feet.” Do you know what the armor is?

(John) The righteousness of Christ. We won’t take time to prove that right now.

(The end of C/D #45 and the beginning of C/D #46)

(Wilfred) “They moved in exact order, like a company of soldiers.” Were the brethren in harmony? Were the remnant in harmony? Yes, Joel chapter two. You read it there. Just like an army of soldiers they marched. He says, they are a mighty people such as never been. They moved in exact order like a company of soldiers. “Their countenances expressed the severe conflict,” What kind of a conflict? Severe, which they had endured, the agonizing struggle” What kind of a struggle? An agonizing struggle that they had passed through. Yet their features, marked with severe internal anguish, now shone with the light and glory of heaven. They had obtained the victory, and it called forth from them the deepest gratitude and holy sacred joy.

I want to assure you that the day is coming when you will have the victory.

It’s right there, the day is coming when you will have the victory. Your sighing and crying and pleading and agonizing now and you get discouraged because you just can’t seem to make any headway and you’ll wonder if you’ll ever make it, and what’s the matter with the Lord? Why doesn’t He fulfill his promise and come and do it for me right now. Well, here’s the answer. God is going to put you through a severe agonizing test. What for? And I could read you that in other statements, but you know what it is don’t you?

(John) To purify.....

(Wilfred) To purify and cleanse you. That’s why. And when you’re through it you will be holy. You will have gained the victory. And how will you respond to that? Will you be glad or will you say, what a terrible thing. I am disgusted with it because it took so much energy and effort and so much pain and suffering? Is that what you are going to say? No, No, you are going to have the deepest gratitude and holy sacred joy. It’s going to call forth from you that response.

Now listen, the numbers of this company had lessened. Some had been shaken out and left by the way. The careless and indifferent who did not join with those who prized victory and salvation enough to perseveringly plead and agonize for it did not obtain it. See, there are some who are not going to bother doing it. They won’t plead and agonize like that and they won’t get it. And they were left behind in darkness and their places were immediately filled by others taking hold of the truth and coming into the ranks. I could explain here that the Loud Cry is going forth at this time and others are coming in by the dozens. “Evil angels still pressed around them,” Did the evil angels leave them? No, they are still pressing around. Listen, but could have no power over them. They are delivered from the power of the evil angels. They have a double company of protection. Their guardian angels have been doubled.

(John) This must be after the... they must be sealed by this time?

(Wilfred) Yes,

“I heard those clothed with the armor speak forth the truth with great power. It had effect.” They are still speaking the truth John. Probation hasn’t closed yet, for everybody that is. “Many had been bound; some wives by their husbands, and some children by their parents. The honest who had been prevented from hearing the truth now eagerly laid hold upon it. All fear of their relatives was gone, and the truth alone was exalted to them. They had been hungering and thirsting for truth; it was dearer and more precious than life.” Did they really want the truth? Oh yes. More precious and dearer than life. “I asked what had made this great change.” All right, here is another milepost. “I asked what had made this great change? The angel answered, "It is the latter rain, the refreshing from the presence of the Lord, the Loud Cry of the third angel." She ties it all together, the latter rain and the Loud Cry. That is what has made the change. Now we have already gone over this idea of the latter rain and the outpouring of the Spirit and what that Spirit will do. It contains the power which enables God’s people to gain the victory. Do you remember that?
And so she says right here; “Great power was with these chosen ones. Said the angel, "Look ye!" My attention was turned to the wicked, or unbelievers. They were all astir. The zeal and power with the people of God had aroused and enraged them.” What were the wicked angry about? The zeal and power that was with the people of God this enraged the wicked. “Confusion, confusion, was on every side. I saw measures taken against the company who had the light and power of God. Darkness again thickened around them; yet they stood firm, approved of God, and trusting in Him. I saw them perplexed; next I heard them crying unto God earnestly. Day and night their cry ceased not:” What time are we now in?

(A woman in the audience) After the close of probation.

(Wilfred) After the close of probation. "Thy will, O God, be done! If it can glorify Thy name, make a way of escape for Thy people! Deliver us from the heathen around about us. They have appointed us unto death; but Thine arm can bring salvation." These are all the words which I can bring to mind. All seemed to have a deep sense of their unworthiness and manifested entire submission to the will of God; yet, like Jacob, every one, without an exception, was earnestly pleading and wrestling for deliverance.” Now this is physical deliverance, they are appointed unto death.

“Soon after they had commenced their earnest cry, the angels in sympathy desired to go to their deliverance.” Now notice the change here. “But a tall, commanding angel suffered them not.” Are you following? The angels wanted to come and deliver them but the tall commanding angel said, No, can’t do that yet. “He said, "The will of God is not yet fulfilled.” Now get this. “They must drink of the cup. They must be baptized with the baptism." And there is the experience.

(John) That’s the Gethsemane experience.

(Wilfred) That’s the Gethsemane experience. It involves your decision to go with God for his sake and not yours. You do not have to go through this you can choose to be released from it, even as Jesus could. He could have chosen to be released but it was not the Father’s will. You have to be put into a position where you are keeping faith with God voluntarily in the light of total self-sacrifice. If you don’t get into that position you cannot reflect the image of his character 100%. Is that right? His character is one of total self-denial. How can you reflect his image perfectly if you don’t have a similar experience? Don’t you see? So He places you in this position where He demonstrates to the universe that you are willing to follow Jesus all the way, right through Gethsemane. If you were keeping God’s Commandments and keeping faith with him in order to gain salvation for yourself at that point you would not be keeping God’s Law you would have a selfish motive. And I read you the bases for this shaking and the outcome of that experience; it’s that business of self-centeredness. Selfishness, that is the basic sin. And why do they have to go through this experience? It said here, to purify them, to cleanse them. They’ve got to drink the cup and be baptized with the baptism. I hope I got that thought across.

If in any way at this point you are staying by God because you are thinking in terms of your own salvation you are not doing what Christ did in Gethsemane. He faced eternal death when He had the power to have eternal life, but if He had taken eternal life at that point you would have been lost. He would not have made available the abundant outpouring of the Holy Spirit whereby you are saved and sealed. Now you are following the same pattern and the reason that you have to do that is to demonstrate total self-sacrifice and to make evident that you have been totally cleansed from all worldliness and all dross.

“Soon I heard the voice of God, which shook the heavens and the earth and there was a mighty earthquake, buildings were shaken down on every side. I then heard a triumphant shout of victory, loud, musical, and clear. I looked upon the company who a short time before, were in such distress and bondage. Their captivity was turned. A glorious light shone upon them. How beautiful they then looked! All marks of care and weariness were gone, and health and beauty were seen in every countenance. Their enemies, the heathen around them, fell like dead men; they could not endure the light that shone upon the delivered, holy ones. This light and glory remained upon them, until Jesus was seen in the clouds of heaven, and the faithful, tried company were changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, from glory to glory. And the graves were opened, and the saints came forth, clothed with immortality, crying, "Victory over death and the grave"; and together with the living saints they were caught up to meet their Lord in the air, while rich, musical shouts of glory and victory were upon every immortal tongue.”

And that’s the summery.

In the next chapter she goes over the sins of Babylon. She shows how the professed people have deteriorated into a wicked condition where God can no longer accept them and the call goes forth to come out of Babylon, the voice of the mighty angel of Revelation 18 repeats the call out of Babylon which was given by the second angel of Revelation 14 and many of them come out and stand with the people of God.

(John) This is to most of the other Churches.

(Wilfred) Yes, the Loud Cry. And in the next chapter she goes over the Loud Cry. I had thought to read all of these but I think I’ll tire you if I do all of this. Maybe I’ll just read two or three significant points that are given in them so that you won’t be totally left high and dry. But I would recommend that you read these chapters yourselves while their thoughts are still here with you.

Here is one I want to read to you from the sins of Babylon, just the last paragraph in that chapter.

“I saw that the slave master will have to answer for the soul of his slave whom he has kept in ignorance; and the sins of the slave will be visited upon the master. God cannot take to heaven the slave who has been kept in ignorance and degradation, knowing nothing of God or the Bible, fearing nothing but his master's lash, and holding a lower position than the brutes.” God can’t take them to heaven she says. “But He does the best thing for him that a compassionate God can do. He permits him to be as if he had not been, while his master must endure the seven last plagues and then come up in the second resurrection and suffer the second most awful death. Then the justice of God will be satisfied.” There are a number of things in there that may puzzle you.

First the slave master will have to answer for the soul of the slave. The sins of the slave will be visited upon the master. God can’t take that slave to heaven in his ignorant degraded state. There is no remedy for it, the master has done that damage to that slave and he is responsible. The devil is responsible for every man in this world who is lost. Did you know that? If the devil hadn’t been here there wouldn’t have been anybody lost. How do I know that? Because God has many other worlds in which He has created beings and placed them and put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil there to test them and not one of them had fallen. Not one. But He cast the devil out into the Earth and He warned Adam and Eve about it and said stay away and watch, he will trick you. Keep away from that tree and keep together and they didn’t do it and the devil caught them. And the devil is the one that’s responsible. And what’s going to happen to the devil as a result? Well I’ll tell you what’s going to happen without going into the details and proving it this time but it’s here I can prove it. The responsibilities of the sins of God’s people are placed on the devil; he bears the penalty insofar as he is responsible for them. And you say, Brother Johnson you are wrong the Bible says that Christ bore the penalty of our sins. Does anybody want to tackle the reconciliation of those two ideas?

(John) The Bible says He suffered for the sins of the world once. In the sanctuary service it shows that the confessed sins of God’s people are placed on the head of the scapegoat who represents Satan and he has a thousand years where he will, in a way, bear the sins of those people who he is committed to contemplate the results of his work on the Earth.

(Wilfred) Yes. You are getting really warm on it there. What does it mean that Christ bore the sins of the world? What does it mean? When Adam sinned, if the Law of God had taken its natural course Adam would have died.

(A man in the audience) Immediately?

(Wilfred) Well, maybe not immediately but it wouldn’t have taken too long. He died anyway, he died anyway but not permanently it would be eternal, that’s right. But it says, that Christ immediately stepped in and gave him a probation. And He’s still staying there giving you a probation, yet. And when He steps out and there is no intercessor the only ones who are going to stand through and survive the second coming of Christ are those who are sealed, who have obtained the victory. They are the only ones.

Christ bears the sins in a sense that He has to take the responsiblty for the damage that is done by the sin. What damage is done? Well, a tremendous amount. He is going to have to recreate the Earth, that’s one thing. And that is a big job, you may think it isn’t, but it is if you stop to think about it. He’s going to have to recreate millions of people and don’t think that doesn’t take an effort on the part of God. We have the idea that all God has to do is think and everything happens. Don’t fool yourself, we are made in the image of God and the way we function is a little pattern of the way God functions. And when our children disobey us and break the windows in our house it takes an effort and it takes money to replace those windows.

(John) As well as the reproach of the neighbors.

(Wilfred) As well as the reproach of the neighbors, all right. And Christ is in the same position.

Now, the devil assumes responsibilities for the sins that Christ is now holding on his shoulders when it is seen by the entire universe that the devil is really the one who is responsible and not the people. Do you follow me? When it is revealed and shown and it will be, this is part of the judgment, we haven’t talked about that, but that is part of the judgment of the living saints here on Earth. It will be shown that those people who are not sinning because they wanted to sin but because the devil was behind it. The devil is going to bear the sins of those and he’s also going to bear the part that he had to do with the sins of even the wicked and the wicked will bear the penalty of their own transgressions.

Now, Let me get back to this paragraph there is something here I want to give you.

God can’t take that slave to heaven because of his ignorance and degradation and his lack of knowledge and he fears nothing but his master's lash, he is just like a brute she says here. But God does the best thing for him, He permits him to be as though he had not been, he goes to sleep, but the master must endure the seven last plagues. Now, I’m going to throw out a little monkey wrench here. I would like to stimulate your thinking, I’m not going to give you the answer, I’ll just give you the problem. Sister White was talking here way back in the mid eighteen hundreds and she saw these slave masters, they had slaves in those days in the south, and this slave-master who has been abusing his slave is now going to be responsible for the eternal death of that slave and he is going to have to suffer the seven last plagues. But that slave-master is dead and buried and the seven last plagues haven’t come yet. You got that problem? How many got the problem? All right.

(John) The seven last plagues come before the coming of Christ, how is that slave-master going get back here on this Earth.

(Wilfred) How is he going to suffer the seven last plagues? That’s the point. And then he is going to come up in the second resurrection, when is that one?

(John) At the end of the thousand years.

(Wilfred) At the end of the thousands years and suffer the most awful death. Then the justice of God will be satisfied.

All right. Now,

(John) You’re not going to give us the solution?

(Wilfred) No, I can’t give you that tonight. I’ve got quite a few of these problems that can only be solved if you are willing to open up your mind to take some pretty broad principles that our denomination will as yet not seen nor accepted but the answers are available, They are in the books.

(A woman in the audience) It must have something to do with the special resurrection.

(Wilfred) But the special resurrection doesn’t come until after the seventh plaque. You know, God’s Word is so simple that even a child can get something out of it and it is so profound that there isn’t a brain in this room that can touch it. That’s the way it is.

(John) We need the Holy Spirit to interpret.

(Wilfred) Right. And to me that is the greatest proof that that is the Word of God and this woman is a true prophet. If I could share with you and it would take me hours and hours to do it, I don’t know whether I could even do it. I don’t know whether I’m even capable of expressing it. But if I could share with you the things that I have found in these books over the last thirty to thirty-five years and how they harmonize with this book, and with the message that we’ve been preaching all these years. It’s fantastic. It could not be anything but the miraculous work of God. There is just no way, you just couldn’t get coincidences of the magnitude happening on their own. So, I’m thoroughly wrapped up in Sister White and her prophecies, just thoroughly wrapped up. And when I was the age as some of you young people I didn’t believe it at all. That’s what God did for me and He can do it for you if you still have any doubts or questions about what she says.

Now, I don’t know just how much more I should give to you, I think I’ll just follow the sequence just a little further here and give you a bit on the Loud Cry. Do you know what the Loud Cry is? It’s the third angel’s message. But it swells to a loud cry. It’s in Revelation 14 the third angel, 18 is the fourth angel. It joins the third angel as it swells to a loud cry. Here it is in Revelation 14 and verse 9. “And the third angel followed them” That’s the other two angels. “Saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand. 10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.” That’s the third angels message and it comes with a loud voice. It follows the first angel’s message which is a call to return to God and fear him and give glory to him and a call to allegiance to him again because the hour of his judgment is come, He made heaven and earth, the sea and the fountains of waters. This is a reference to him as the creator and of course to the restoration of the Sabbath as a sign of his creative power and so on. And the eighth verse is the second angel, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, Babylon is the confusion of doctrine that has infiltrated the Christian Churches down through the ages and which reaches it’s climax now in this time when the devil comes in with all his delusions and deceptions and miraculous working power and that is described in Revelation 18 which we’ll look at in a minute as it applies to our day. And a third angel brings out the denunciation against those who worship the beast and his image. Can I explain that in just two or three minutes? I don’t know whether I can or not.

The central principle around which the rebellion of Lucifer hinges is his loss of confidence in the integrity of God. He didn’t believe that God’s choice of a law was right. He felt that God’s Law was too domineering, dictatorial, overbearing, it didn’t allow them freedom. Since they were holy creatures they should be allowed freedom because they would make the right choices if they were holy. That was his argument. So he questioned the Law of God. Why does God need this Law anyway? When He created us holy, we shouldn’t have to have it. In doing that he was questioning the authority of God. And there was one other slant to it. God had honored his Son, He had placed him on a level with himself so that the word of the Son was to be accepted as the word of the Father. The authority of the Son was to be as the authority of the Father. Authority, He was the one who was in command, He had the final say. Lucifer didn’t. And Lucifer didn’t like this. He questioned the authority of the Son. What right had the Father to make His Son equal to Himself? Why didn’t He make Lucifer equal to Himself? You see? He wanted to be equal with Christ. He wanted to take the place of Christ.

Now, the restoration of the Kingdom of God hinges around that little point. When God’s people return to an acceptance of the authority of Jesus as the King of kings and Lord of lords God accepts them into his Kingdom. That’s the condition for citizenship in the Kingdom of Heaven. Well, isn’t that the gospel we have been preaching all down through the years? Accept the Lord Jesus Christ and you are going to be saved, that’s it. Now do you see the significance in accepting Jesus? What does it mean to accept Jesus? It means to accept Jesus as the King of kings that Lucifer refused to accept. And what is the sign that God used to show that Jesus was the King of kings? Why, He put Christ out in the open when He created this world in six days. It had never been done before and will never be done again like that.

Let me tell you something with my tongue in my cheek. Evolution is God’s method of creation, that’s how I got here. I don’t mean the theory of evolution that man came from a monkey. I mean the principle of evolution. You can’t deny it. I came from a tiny seed and Jesus said that the Kingdom of heaven is just like that. The Kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, one of the tiniest of seeds and it grows up and comes into a tree and the birds have their nests in there. That’s God’s method. Sister White said that if you want to know how God does things look into nature. Have you looked? Look into the stars and see how He creates worlds, it’s going on all the time. It takes millions of years for these things to function and operate, there’s no question about it. It’s there you can see it. But this world was created in six literal days. Something that had never been done before and will never be done again. That’s why God made a memorial of it. You don’t make a memorial of something that’s going to be repeated over and over again. Do you? No way. You were born once so you have a birthday. You wouldn’t need a birthday if you were going to be born every year you do not need a memorial of that. You don’t need a memorial of a six-day creation if six-day creations are going on all the time. No sense to it. Why did He make a memorial of it? And why did He create it this way? I’ll tell you why, Lucifer was the most talented, most gifted of all created beings and God used Lucifer in the operation of his universe. He gave him great authority and power and Lucifer understood the laws of nature, he had worked with them, he had worked with Christ in the creation of other worlds.

(A man in the audience) How so?

(Wilfred) By maneuvering the laws of nature. That is how my parents brought me into existence by using the laws that God put into nature. It was their decision, Am I right or am I wrong? How do I know that God created me? I can do just like Lucifer did. This is what he did. He said how do I know that Christ is the creator? Christ had never come out in the open and showed it, that is contrary to his character. Christ is not one who goes out and says, look at me, see who I am. The great big creator, better listen to me, look see how I create worlds. No, He has never done that at all. No, that’s not Christ, that’s not the kind of God we serve. We serve a humble God, one who is willing to come into a stable to be born. One who is willing to be spat upon and abused in order to live God’s Law. That’s the kind of fellow we serve. So Lucifer comes along and questions God, questions his justice, questions his law, questions his integrity, and the very idea that He exalted the Son of God, Christ above Lucifer. Lucifer understood the laws of nature he could handle this situation all right he didn’t need Christ.

Now, how is God going to handle this? I’ll tell you how He handled it. He planned the creation of this Earth and left Lucifer out in the cold, Lucifer had nothing to do with it, nothing. All by himself, Christ came out in the open and He said, Let there be light and there was light. And He divided the light from the darkness. And the light He called day and the darkness He called night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. And He went on down through, six days. And in six days He had a world there and Lucifer was looking on with mouth agape and eyes glaring. What’s happening here? And then He created the Sabbath the seventh day and anybody who acknowledges that Sabbath which has no other reason for acknowledging it except admission that Christ is the creator and that God said Keep it, there is no other reason. God created that Sabbath and He said that is my flag. When you show allegiance to that flag you are showing allegiance to me. When you keep the seventh day Sabbath you are saying, I believe that Christ is the true creator even though I have never seen him come out in the open and do it. Have you seen Christ come out in the open and create, have you? No, only through the natural laws that He’s established, that’s the only creating that you’ve ever seen. I see all of you people, you were all created but you all came the same way every last one of you. There is only one person that was ever created by the word of God out of the dust of the ground and that was Adam. Even Eve didn’t come that way. God took a part of Adam’s body and through the mechanisms inherent in those cells He expanded that into Eve. And science today tells me that they can take any one of my cells whether it be skin, or finger nails, or whatever and in that cell is written the total pattern of my body and with the correct techniques and the correct understanding of the laws by which it functions duplicate me.

Sister White says that there will be no one born in the new Earth but she saw children there at the end of the thousand years after the New Jerusalem had come down on the new Earth and my Bible tells me that there are children there. Do you get the picture? God has more than one way of creating a human being, He has demonstrated that.

But back to the Sabbath.

Can you see why the Lord created the Sabbath as a memorial to creation? Because Christ had to come out in the open and reveal himself as the true creator. Not that this was his normal way of doing it. It was because of the rebellion of Lucifer that He was forced to do it. And God is forced to do things today because of Lucifer’s rebellion that He would never do otherwise. One of them is to cause you to suffer. That is not God’s way, He doesn’t want you to suffer, He doesn’t want all this suffering and pain in the world. It is necessary to destroy the devil and to destroy sin. There is no other way and lest you should criticize God for doing it, like the devil does, God sent his only begotten Son into the world to suffer more than anybody else has ever suffered, when He didn’t have to do it. To be your example so that when things get hot for you you could look up and say, Well Jesus did it too and He did it for my sake. I’m willing to go through because there is no other way for you to overcome sin. No other way. Until you learn by experience the pain of sin, the consequences of sin, you are not going to be motivated to decide never to do it, and God will not force your will. It’s got to come from you. You make the decision to expel sin from your Life, it’s in The Desire of Ages. And you are never going to do that until you have shared the sufferings of Christ.

So there is never going to be another six-day creation. There will never be another Sabbath, the one that’s already created will last for eternity. And from one new moon to another and from one Sabbath to another shall all flesh come before me to worship me, says my Bible. It will be a perpetual reminder for all eternity that Christ did something that He never did before and because He did it He suffered the eternal death. He actually, I don’t know whether you can see this but I hope you can. He actually transgressed his own law for your sake and in doing it He kept it, because his law is total self-denial, that’s his law. When it comes to an issue between me and you, God’s Law says, I think of you. But so far as I’m concerned God’s Law to me says, Love your neighbor as yourself. But so far as God is concerned, He loved not just his neighbors He loved his enemies. Now He says if you want to be like me, if you chose to be like me, I am only asking you to love your neighbor as yourself. That’s my command. But if you want to be like me, if you want to be perfect like your Father in heaven is perfect, you’ll find it in Matthew, love your enemies. Do good to them that hate you and despitefully use you. Got the picture?

Now what did Christ actually do at the creation of this world? He came out and displayed himself, is that the way his character is? Show off? No. Why did He show off? He had to do it. He was forced to do it by Lucifer rebellion. He had to show Lucifer up, there was no other way. But in doing it He accepted the eternal death penalty. My Bible says the Lamb was slain from the foundation of the world. Now God’s Law goes a step further here, Jesus said if a man would save his life, .... What’s going to happen?

(John) He is going to lose it.

(Wilfred) If a man lose his life for my sake he will live and that is the condition you have to reach. You have to be willing to lose your life for his sake. When you do that you're showing that total confidence in the integrity of God and his promises. God has promised you eternal life; you have no guarantee except his word. When you accept that word you are showing total confidence in his truthfulness, in his integrity, in his power, in his authority that He will do it. You are doing just the opposite of what Lucifer did. Do you see the importance of acknowledging the Law of God? Do you see why it is important? That is the thing Lucifer challenged. Do you see the importance of the principle of authority? You accept the authority of God without question and there is one commandment that you have to accept that way because it has no other sense in it.

(A man in the audience) The fourth.

(Wilfred) The fourth one. You can rest on Sunday just as well as Saturday, it doesn’t make a bit of difference as far as the physiology of the body is concerned. No difference. The difference is; God said the seventh day was sanctified and hallowed and He did it by his own authority, It’s the one commandment, like the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the one thing that God put in there as a little test for you to demonstrate how you feel about him. That’s all, it’s a plan. And there is another power instigated by the devil, which decided that they were going to change God’s Law, remember that? And they decided that they were going to use natural forces which is the normal way that God functions. See how subtle the counterfeit is? The sun gives all the light and power and strength to the Earth. All the light and there is no life on the earth without the sun. You take the sun away and everything would die.

Therefore we aught to worship the sun, and the sun is the source of all life. Not the creator behind the sun, but the sun. See? The devil’s counterfeit.

(A man in the audience) The heathen saw it.

(Wilfred) The heathen saw this and they worshipped the sun on Sunday, the sun’s day. And the devil instigated the apostate power, the rebellious power against God’s Law to change that. And that’s the flag of their authority. You can read it in their books. Their authority is manifested by their power to change the Sabbath to Sunday. Can’t you see it? Now, I’m flying God’s flag. I don’t keep the Sabbath because I figure I have to do that to get eternal life, no, no, that’s not why I keep it, I keep it to honor God. God has already accepted me; there will be millions of people saved in the Kingdom of Heaven that never kept the seventh-day Sabbath. Do you believe that? I keep his day because I want to honor him. I have perfect confidence in his integrity; I don’t question him a bit. I have seen the sense in his Law it is as clear and logical to me as two and two makes four. And I am doing all in my power to help share it with other people who don’t see it. I don’t know how far I am getting but I’m for sure enough trying.

Creation in the future will revert back to the original form of creation and God will use his people as the tools even as he uses parents as tools in the creation of children today. There will be means whereby they will function through the natural laws that He has established to further the creative works of God. How will we know that Christ is the true creator who is actually doing it?

(A man in the audience) We have the memorial.

(Wilfred) We have the memorial, we will remember back to the big demonstration and there will be witnesses of that who will testify. Who are the witnesses?

(Same man) The angels.

(Wilfred) The angels, the good angels, they will tell us all about it.

Well, I got sidetracked.

(John) I just want to comment, Brother, that in six days the Lord, and I’m just repeating something you said to me several years ago that I remembered. In six days Christ demonstrated his power to meet the emergency that came about because of the rebellion of Lucifer but it has taken him six thousand years to demonstrate his character of love.

(Wilfred) And to restore the Kingdom and the seventh-day Sabbath is the millennium when all of the universe including God’s people, but particularly God’s people, will go through all the records of the last six thousand years, it is all faithfully kept. And when they get through those records every soul will be convinced that God’s decisions were right.

Do you know what God did on the first Sabbath back here? He rested and what?

(John) He saw that it was very good.

(Wilfred) It was very good. And what are the saints going to do after the regeneration and restoration of the Kingdom of God during the seventh day of the regeneration, the seven thousand years, the millennium, what are they going to do?

(John) They are going to see for that six thousand years that God did the same thing.

(Wilfred) The same thing. They are going to see that that six days of regenerated process of God’s people was well done. And every eye is going to confess and every knee will bow down to him. And when the devil and his folk come up at the end of the millennium and they start their monkey business again and come up against that great city and try to take it they are going to be shown a panorama of the plan of salvation. Before them is going to be displayed what God has done and every one of those fellows will say, you were right, we were wrong. That we don’t fit into that kind of a Kingdom. Our characters are all together different than that. We have spoiled our chances and they will choose to go to sleep.

Well I think my hour is about up and my tape should just about be at the end here so I’ll call it for this time and next week we will perhaps continue from there and move into the sealing and show how this ties together.
